BASF, the world's leading chemical company, and its partner Sinopec have invested a total of $2.9 billion in the construction of the new integrated Verbund site in Nanjing, China. The site, which started operations in 2005, is the largest single investment in BASF's 140-year history. In a joint study led by Dr. Sonja Kurz from the German GTZ (Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) and Christian Schmidkonz from THINK!DESK China Research & Consulting the impacts of the site's construction and early production on the environment, the society as well as the economy of the region have been examined. The internationally very well recieved study will be presented at a conference in Shanghai on November 29th. The program of the conference as well as an invitation by BASF can be downloaded here (pdf). |
